One sixth (1/6) of the Chem. 1220 grade is derived from performance in recitation (quizzes).

Reserve: Copies of material relevant to the course are available for check-out at the Reserve Desk of the Merrill Library. Course materials are also available via electronic reserve;
http://eres.usu.edu. Password BOL1220.

Posted Materials: Exam keys and current statistics will be posted on the third floor of ML outside ML369. In addition, they will be available on the internet at:

Resource Room: A Resource Room is available for all students taking general chemistry. The time and location of this facility will be announced during the first week of classes.

Grading: A total of 600 points is possible in Chem. 1220 and is distributed as follows:
1st Hour Exam (M, Feb. 4, 8:30 AM, BNR 102; Chapters 14-16) 100 pts.
2nd Hour Exam (F, Mar. 8, 8:30 AM, BNR 102; Chapters 17-19) 100 pts.
3rd Hour Exam (F, Apr. 5, 9:30 AM, BNR 102; Chapters 20-22)100 pts. 100 pts.
Recitation quizzes 100 pts.
Final Exam (M, April 29, 7:00-8.50 AM, BNR102; Comprehensive) 200 pts.

Tentative Grading Scale:
A/A-: 100-90%
B+/B/B-: 89-80%
C+/C/C-: 79-70%
D+/D/D-: 69-60%

Based on the overall class average, the percentage cuts for the various grades may shift lower than the above cuts. In other words, an "A" grade may be assigned for lower percentages (e.g. 88-100%) than those indicated above, a scenario that is to your favor. However, the percentages will never shift higher than the above so you are assured the indicated or a higher grade, depending on the class average at the conclusion of the course.

MISSED EXAMS: Anyone missing one of the hour exams for legitimate reasons will be eligible to take the make-up exam offered on April 20th by appointment only. This exam will be comprehensive through the material covered in the first twelve weeks of the course. This is the only make-up exam that will be offered. Missed exams that are not made-up will be scored as zero.

COURSE WITHDRAWAL: Anyone may withdraw from Chem. 1220 without academic penalty through Feb. 25, 2002. After this date, withdrawal requires permission from the Dean's office.

PROVISIONS: The administration of Chem. 1220 will adhere strictly to the academic regulations outlined in the Spring Semester Schedule of Classes. Missed exams or quizzes require written documentation from a doctor, parent or other suitable authority.

COURSE CONTENT: The course will cover topics presented in chapters 14 through 25 of the Brown, Lemay and Bursten text. The multiple-choice exams will be restricted to material covered in the class meetings and problems derived from the recommended chapter problems. You are strongly encouraged to read the text chapters, work practice problems from the text and/or study guide, and to work the practice exams that I have placed on reserve. Your performance ultimately depends on your proficiency under testing conditions.

Note: In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, reasonable accommodations will be provided for all persons with disabilities in order to ensure equal participation in Chem. 1220. In cooperation with the Disability Resource Center, reasonable accommodation will be provided for students with disabilities. Please meet with the instructor during the first week of class to make arrangements. Alternative format print materials, large print, audio, diskette or Braille, will be available through the Disability Resource Center.
